When most Americans hear the word diet, they cringe. They think of restrictions on eating, exercising, and mostly losing weight. The moment a skinny person says I am on a diet, people say, why, you don’t need to lose weight, and vice versa, when an overweight person says they are on a diet, the response is, well, that’s good. I’m glad to see you’re getting healthy. The problem with Americans is that they continue to misuse vocabulary words. Americans are basically parrots. They have no clue what they are saying, just repeating what they’ve heard. The word diet has NOTHING to do with weight lost in any way, shape, or form. The definition of diet is food one eats. Frogs are on a fly diet, lions are on a deer diet, some birds are on a worm diet, others on a seed diet, while others on a fish diet. Honeybees are on a honey diet, and cats are on a mouse diet. Basically, whatever you are eating is your diet. If you are eating, you are on a diet. The only people who are NOT on a diet are those who are fasting, suffering from hunger, or those who are anorexic. If you eat cookies, cakes, and pies, then you are on a cookies, cakes, and pies, diet. Some people are on a candy diet, others on a vegan diet, others are on a steak and potatoes diet, some are on a whatever doesn’t move diet. Just as long as you are eating you are on a diet. Now, there are special weight lost diets, but the word diet itself has nothing to do with weight lost. So, the next time you hear the word diet don’t cringe simply let the person know they are misusing the word, because 9 times out of 10 the word is being misused. There are only two kinds of people who 100% understand the true definition of the word diet, and they are nutritionists and doctors. And, well, now you can add yourself to the list. Now go and enjoy your diet.
Final Note: Before using a vocabulary word, just to make sure, look it up in a dictionary and/or an encyclopedia. You'll be amazed of how many words you are misusing.
